Our Story

One family, two award-winning restaurants

Il Caminetto opened its doors in 2018, after an extensive renovation brought this corner of Moonee Ponds back to life. Behind it stands the same founding family that built Shop225 in Pascoe Vale, carrying one belief between two kitchens: authentic Italian food, made properly, for everyone.

The Founders

Lorenzo Tron

Co-founder · Trieste, Italy

Lorenzo grew up in Trieste, in Italy's north east, where food is never just food. It's the reason the family gathers. He brought that conviction to Melbourne and built his reputation as one of the country's most respected pizzaioli.

At Il Caminetto, that shows up in the details: dough that rests a full 72 hours, pasta made by hand, and a menu where vegan, dairy free and gluten free guests order with the same confidence as everyone else.

The Founders

Roberto Davoli

Co-founder · Reggio Emilia, Italy

Roberto comes from Reggio Emilia, in the heartland of Italian food, where hospitality is something you grow up inside rather than learn. Alongside Lorenzo, he is one half of the founding family behind both Il Caminetto and Shop225.

His measure of a good night has never changed. A warm room, an honest plate, and guests who arrive as customers and leave as regulars.
